During the middle of the largest national anthem protest in recent memory, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks needed to get her two cents into the discussion. While she was hired to sing the national anthem at the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals, she injected a secret, subliminal message into her patriotic performance. Because many NFL players – a larger percentage every week – choose to take a knee during the anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality, the Star Spangled Banner is a heated issue right now. Even President Trump is joining the discussion and ordering players to stand or be fired. But on Monday, Jordin Sparks had a message to all the protestors as she sang the anthem in front of millions of football fans and patriots.
If you look closely at her performance, you’ll see the hidden message. It comes as a message she wrote onto her left hand, which is also holding the microphone.
Her secret message was written as:
“PROV. 31: 8-9”
Jordin Sparks was referring to two verses in Proverbs from the Bible. The quote she is referencing is:
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Although Jordin Sparks was singing the national anthem during the Monday Night Football pregame, she was proclaiming her allegiance to the national anthem protestors who are all taking a knee.
But this was not the only twist on Monday night. The Dallas Cowboys as a team locked arms – along with owner Jerry Jones – and took a knee before the anthem was played before the start of the game. But as Sparks began singing, they all rose to their feet. Players on the Cowboys had been threatened with termination if they knelt during the anthem.
Because President Trump urged players to stand during the anthem, hundreds of NFLers took a knee in protest. Trump wanted the players to show respect for the country and for the owners to fire any NFL player who didn’t stand during the anthem.
In the video below, you can see the moment Sparks’s singing inspired the Cowboys and the Cardinals to share their patriotic duty and stand during the anthem.
People from across the country shared their thoughts in the comment section. Here were some popular ones:
“The Main Stream Media has divided the country. Not Trump.”
“You guys clearly can’t see that Trump is a distraction to the NFL. Teams need to stop worrying about Trump and focus on what’s more important, besides they took a knee before the anthem even played and they’re still getting criticized.”
“The Cowboys were my last hope of clinging to rationality. I’m done with the NFL, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.”
“These players are idiots. Trump is gonna win the 2020 election.”
What do you think about these players and the whole national anthem debate going on right now? Should she be allowed to spread her agenda?
